MY DAUGHTER DIED OF ADDISONS DISEASE DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU OR SOMEONE YOU LOVE
My beautiful daughter Lisa Marie Bates lost her life to Addison's disease in 1986, at the age of 10. Why? Because all of her many doctors diagnosed Lisa with vitilago which is a skin disorder (white spots). She continued to get sick and was diagnosed with many flus and viruses. My concern was so great I screamed at her dermatologist to send her for a second opinion. She was sent to a world class children's hospital and her diagnosis of vitilago was confirmed. Every appointment she continued to exhibit signs of the flu. Lisa had all the classic symptoms, white spots (vitilago), darkened pigment - I complained about that too. Lisa died because she should have been sent to an Endocrinologist. An endocrinologist would have checked out Lisa's immune system. All her doctors took blood but did not check her TSH level and missed the fact that she also had a thyroid condition. Addison's disease attacks the adrenal gland and without treatment you can go into adrenal crisis. That's what happened to Lisa. She was put into the hospital but it was too late. Lisa died right before my very eyes. Her last words to me when she looked at me with her big beautiful eyes were Mommy I'm okay. Then she went into immediate cardiac arrest. I am so glad I was with Lisa when she died, but don't let what happened to me, happen to you. If anyone you know gets flus and viruses for no reason and any type of pigment disorder especially darkened pigment, demand that the doctor test for Addison's disease. No mother should have to bury her precious child. It was so unfair that Lisa only lived 10 years. Yet, I wouldn't give up that ten years for all the money on the planet.
